Willard Lady Tigers beat Glendale as basketball season begins

Tiger basketballers squeeze by Central Bulldogs for hard-fought, hardwood victory
 
Both the Willard High school girls’ and boys’ basketball teams opened their 2021-22 season last week, with the Lady Tigers hosting the Glendale Lady Falcons on Monday, Nov. 22, and the boys hosting Springfield Central on Tuesday, Nov. 23.
Girls
The Lady Tigers knocked off Glendale by eight points, 57-49. Carolina Crawford paced Willard with 20 points and Kailyn Washington added another 19 points in the win.
Willard is now 1-0 and will host their annual Willard Basketball Classic, set to begin on Wednesday, Dec. 1, and end on Saturday, Dec. 4. The Lady Tigers will open the tournament against Bolivar tonight. The other six teams that will be taking part in the tournament are Blue Springs, Ash Grove, Strafford, Belton and two teams from Arkansas—Bentonville and Harrison.
Boys
On the boys’ side of things, the Tigers defeated the Bulldogs in a hard-fought game, winning by four points, 64-60.
Willard is now 1-0 on the season and they, too, will be hosting their annual Willard Basketball Classic from Wednesday, Dec. 1, until Saturday, Dec. 4. The Tigers will open play tonight against Camdenton. The other six teams that are scheduled to compete are Bolivar, Sedalia Smith-Cotton, Belton, Greenwood and two teams from Arkansas—Harrison and Flippin.
