Lady Tigers drop games to Carthage and Republic

It was a tough week for the Willard High School softball team as they lost to Carthage and Republic last week.
The Willard Lady Tigers traveled to Carthage on Sept. 20 and came home with a 10-0 loss.
Cheyenne Terry, Sara Morris and Baylee Gastineau all went 1-2 in the game. Terry took the loss, going three innings allowing five runs on four hits with one walk and two strikeouts. Sydni Fletcher pitched the final inning, allowing five runs on five hits with one strikeout.
“It was a disappointing game to say the least,” said head coach AshLeigh Williams. “We didn't come ready to play on any front. Not what we wanted or expected against a beatable Carthage team.”
Willard hosted Republic on Sept. 18, but fell 9-3.
Willard scored two runs in the first inning and a single run in the second inning to lead 3-1, but the orange Tigers scored two runs in the third inning, a single run in the fourth inning, three runs in the fifth inning and two runs in the sixth inning to win 9-3.
Ryley Ritchey went 1-3 with a run scored and two RBI; Savannah Yeargan was 2-3 with an RBI, Terry went 2-4 with a run scored and Gastineau was 1-3 with a run scored. Terry took the loss going five innings, allowing five runs on five hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Fletcher finished the game going two innings, allowing four runs on four hits with two strikeouts.
“The Republic game is always a tough one to lose,” said Williams “We came out fired up and scored three quick runs. They came back at us and we lost a little of our momentum. After they took the lead, we couldn't recover.”
