Willard volleyball finishes fourth in Class 4 state playoffs

    A great season has come to end for the Willard high school volleyball team, as they fell in three sets to St. Teresa’s Academy in Cape Girardeau on Saturday, Nov. 3.
    Willard started championship weekend by playing in a round robin pool play on Friday night, going 3-3, and coming close to qualifying for the state championship game.
    Against St. Teresa’s, the Lady Tigers lost the first set, 14-25 before rebounding to win the second set, 25-21. Willard fell in a very close and hard fought third set, 23-25.
    Ashton Wildermuth led Willard with 34 assists; Kindall Smithson had 18 digs, Payton Van Veeton had 14 kills and Maddy Bushnell ended the game with nine kills.
    Willard finished the season with a 32-5 record.
