William M. Asbell

William M. Asbell, 83, passed away Saturday, May 25, 2019, at his home in Carthage. Asbell was born on March 18, 1936, in Jasper County, to T.E. Asbell, Sr. and Frances “Courtney” Asbell. After graduating from Golden City High School, he moved to Carthage in 1955. He worked for several years as a truck driver, then retired in October 1998.
Asbell was united in marriage to Leta Mae Fischer on Sept. 29, 1956, in Barton County; she preceded him in death in 2013.
Asbell is survived by one son, Jerry Asbell, Sr. of Columbia; two daughters, Sherri Asbell, of Carthage and Cleta McNary of Republic; two brothers and one sister; three grand- children and eight great-grandchildren.
Asbell was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and three brothers.
An open visitation was held until 7 p.m. on Wednes- day, May 29, 2019, at Ulmer Funeral Home. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date at Paradise Cemetery.
