Ash Grove Cemetery board looking for volunteers, members

The Ash Grove Cemetery board is looking for volunteers, as many of their current pool are no longer able to do the work required to upkeep the area. The board is also looking for citizens to help on the administrative side of things and the board itself, as officers age.

Things came to a head this past Memorial Day, said Peggy Rogan, cemetery board secretary, as the cemetery board lacked the able-bodied manpower to place small flags around the cemetery as had been done in years prior.

“We need support,” said Rogan. “We need people, young people, to keep it going.”

Rogan brought the matter before the Ash Grove Board of Aldermen on June 19 to ask for assistance in locating new members. Mayor Caleb Smith said the city would help out where it could and that he would look into putting the word out on Facebook and in the newsletter.

The Ash Grove Cemetery is a nonprofit organization, which depends on donations for upkeep and maintenance. The board is seeking donations as well as volunteers and board members. If interested, contact Clyde Jones at 417-366-1532.
