BETTY L. DESKIN

Betty L. Deskin, 94, of Springfield passed away on Jan. 27, 2024. A descendent of one of the founding families of Springfield, she was the daughter of James Robert Campbell and Pearl Warren Wright Campbell. She was born in Springfield on Nov. 1, 1929 in the Gray Campbell Homestead that is now a historic site within Nathaniel Green Park.
She was joined in marriage to Lee Charles Deskin on Aug. 19, 1951. They were married for 60 years and had four daughters before he passed away in 2011. Together they owned and worked at Deskin Scale Company.
She volunteered at then St. John’s hospital as a Pink Lady for 35 years and was a member of the Opti-Mrs club. A lover of all things flowers, she was a member of the Hawthorn Garden Club. She enjoyed being part of the Old Vintage Car Club with her husband and somehow managed to entice him into joining her in square dancing; and together they were avid Lady Bear fans. A devout Christian, she was a longtime member of South Haven Baptist Church and a recent member of Jefferson Avenue Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughters, Pam Britain (Steve), Cindy Deskin (Karen), Sherri Harrison Crawford (Mike), and Debbie Phillips (Raymond); five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Mary Campbell; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charles; and her brother, Robert Max Campbell.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Jan. 30, at Jefferson Avenue Baptist Church. Burial followed at Maple Park Cemetery.
