Monday, Jan. 9, incident results in moderate injuries to Republic woman
A Republic woman was injured on Monday, Jan. 9, when she was struck by a car that veered to avoid hitting a school bus. Amber Cromber, 32, received moderate injuries and was transported to Mercy Hospital in Springfield by ambulance.
According to an accident report filed by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Pamela Bradam, also of Republic, was driving a 2009 Nissan Altima northward on Farm Road 87, when she topped a hill crest about three miles north of Republic and swerved to avoid hitting the bus. As she did so, she traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck Cromber. Bradam, 56, was not injured in the accident; her vehicle received moderate damage and was towed from the scene.
In response to the accident, Nikki Faith, district communications specialist for the Republic School District sent an e-mail to the parents of the students and the district employees. In it, she stated that Price Elementary’s Bus 18 was at a regular stop on its route with its lights flashing and stop arm displayed when the accident occurred.
“Witnesses stated that when a vehicle came over a hill,” she said, “the driver of that vehicle was unable to stop, swerved to miss the bus and unintentionally struck an adult pedestrian nearby.”
Faith also said that five students were on the bus at the time, but none of them were harmed in the accident, and that counselors were on site at Price Elementary and the Transportation Department to offer support for those who witnessed the accident.
