Charles “Charlie” Gilliland

Charles “Charlie” Gilliland, 75, Republic, passed away surrounded by his loving family, peacefully at his home on Dec. 19, 2020.
He was born June 24, 1945 in Chesapeake, to Howard and Geraldine
(Campbell) Gilliland. He was the oldest of three children in the home.
He graduated from Mt. Vernon High School. He served his country from 1965
to 1969 by joining the US Navy which included a tour in Vietnam and was
awarded the Purple Heart. He went to work for Frisco Railroad as a diesel
mechanic for approximately 16 years. After his years with the Frisco Railroad,
he worked as a mail handler for the USPS for approximately 20 years until his
retirement.
He married Rebecca Broadbent on Nov. 8, 2003. They loved to travel.
Gilliland was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Larry Gilliland and
Terry Gilliland; son Charles Ray; stepdaughter Heather Hoff-Zurbuch; great-
grandson Anthony Hoff.
He is survived by his loving wife Becci; children Lori Gilliland and Patrick
Gilliland; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and several nieces
and nephews, as well as other family and friends.
A visitation is scheduled from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2021. A private family
burial will be held at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial contributions be made
to Lost and Found Ozarks Grief Center at lostandfoundozarks.com in memory
of Gilliland.
