Charlotte May Shelton

Charlotte May Shelton was born Oct. 11, 1941, in Denver, Colo., to Frederick Charles Root and Opal Sophonia (Sala) Root. She grew up a small-town girl in Platteville, Colo., where she learned the value of hard work and family. She graduated from Mapleton High School, where she was a proud baton twirler and made friends that lasted a lifetime. She married Dale Ray Shelton on April 19, 1964, and together they had a son, Dale Ray, Jr.
After high school, she went on to business school and put her skills to work at Farmers Insurance and later in the credit department at Sears. She took pride in doing a job right and giving her best.
She loved painting ceramics, tending to her rose bushes, and hitting the lanes for a good game of bowling. She was happiest when she was shopping for her son and grandkids—especially when there was a clearance rack involved.
She had a strong faith and spent many Sundays at Denver Church of God and later at Nixa Assembly of God, where she found community and comfort.
She is survived by her son Dale (Kimberly) Shelton; two grandchildren and their spouses; six great-grandchildren; and sister Wilma Sharon Castillo; two nieces; and many other great nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband Dale Ray Shelton, sister Elizabeth Root, brother-in-law- John Castillo, and niece Dawn Renea Castillo.
