Frye charged with stealing, deceptive business practice
Republic man turns self in, bonds out same day; allegedly at least 10 victims
A Republic man is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after he allegedly took payment for roof repairs that he never performed. Mark Frye, 50, is facing six felony counts of stealing by deceit and three counts of deceptive business practice, a Class A misdemeanor.
According to the probable cause statement in the case, a total of 10 people were victims of Frye’s alleged actions.
The owner of Advanced Restorations, a home exterior remodeling company, reported to Springfield Police on Dec. 19, 2023, that he had learned that Frye had been “committing fraud and stealing money from customers.” The man said that Frye had “positioned himself” as the business owner and had clients write checks to him (Frye) or accepting cash and not reporting the income. The owner said Frye had worked for Advanced Restorations for three-and-a-half years.
Frye allegedly took money from Advanced Restorations clients
Four people reported that they paid Frye for work that was never completed. The first person said that she reached out to Frye to fix her roof in May of 2023. She said that he temporarily fixed her roof, and that he requested a down payment of $450. She also said that he requested that she write the check out to him instead of Advanced Restoration, which she did. The woman said Frye promised to come back at a later date, but never showed. The owner of Advanced Restorations said that the check was never turned over to the company.
