Greene County goes for Trump, other Republicans
Republican candidates win roughly 60 percent of Greene County votes; Amendment 3 passes
Former and once again President Elect Donald Trump won a decisive victory at the nation’s polls on Tuesday, Nov. 5, to secure his return to the White House and the highest office in the land. He took 312 votes in the Electoral College, 42 more than the 270 required to win the presidency; his Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris, won 226. Trump also won the popular vote, with 75,142,705 Americans voting for him at the polls, or 50.3 percent. Harris won 71,881,312 votes, or 48.1 percent, as of press time.
Missouri, and Greene County, followed suit. Statewide, Trump won over 1.7 million votes, or about 58.4 percent, to win the state’s 10 Electoral College votes, while Harris won about 1.19 million votes, or about 40 percent.
Greene County voters largely voted for Trump. He won 85,504 votes in the county, or about 59 percent, while 55,504 votes, or about 39 percent, were cast for Harris. They also largely supported other Republican candidates for national and statewide offices, as did much of Missouri.
Greene County voters were almost evenly divided on the Missouri State constitutional amendments, though the majority of them voted against Amendment Two, Amendment Three, Amendment Five and Amendment Six. However, a majority of the voters in the county favored Amendment Seven and Proposition A. Statewide, voters passed Amendment Two, Amendment Three, Amendment Seven and Proposition A, while Amendments Five and Six were voted down.
Greene County saw a massive turnout during this election. Shane Schoeller said that, as of press time, 144,697 ballots had been cast, representing 68.91 percent of the county’s 209,984 registered voters. However, he added, the tally wasn’t final because they still had to count ballots mailed in from Greene County voters living overseas, ballots from those in the military and provisional ballots. The final count, he said, would be certified on Friday, Nov. 15.
