James Matthew “Matt” Askren, 68, of Republic passed away on Feb. 26, 2024. He was born on Oct. 7, 1955, to James and Dorothy (Gertz) Askren in Sedalia,  one of eight children in the home.
He graduated in 1973 from St. Agnes Catholic School in Springfield. He worked most of his career in the manufacturing department at French’s Food Company in Springfield, retiring from there with over 30 years of dedicated service.
He is survived by his daughter, Ashley (Nathan) Davis; three grandchildren;  siblings, Bob (Marylou) Askren, Mark Askren, Caroline (Mike) Goering, Larry Askren, Chris Askren, Steve (Kathy) Askren and Paul Askren; as well as other extended family and countless friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Dorothy Askren.

A visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 8, with a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Springfield. Burial will follow in Lindsey Cemetery in Republic.
