JANET SUE (WHEELER) LOCKE
Janet Sue (Wheeler) Locke, 74, of Bois D’Arc passed away on Jan.18, 2024, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield. She was born on April 2, 1949, in Humansville, the second child of James Allen Wheeler and Lois Nadean (Jones) Wheeler.
She was a 1967 graduate of Bolivar High School and attended Southwest Baptist College before marrying James F. (Jim) Locke of Halfway on Aug. 24, 1968, at Brighton Baptist Church.
She later returned to college and earned her undergraduate degree in education from Southwest Baptist University, and a master’s and specialist’s degree from Missouri State University. She taught middle school science in the Humansville, Buffalo and Willard school districts before retiring in 2012. She was a member of Bolivar First Baptist Church and had regularly attended Sac River Cowboy Church since moving to Bois D’Arc.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Jim; daughter, Joann (Jim) Pipkin of Republic; son, Jason Locke and Junie, Stockton; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren, and a baby girl due in May; her brother, John (Joanna) Wheeler of Bolivar; and sister, Brenda (Randy) Potts of Bowie, Texas; her three sisters-in-law; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother, Ronald James Wheeler.
Services were held on Tuesday, Jan. 23, at Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar with burial at Reed Cemetery.
