JOHN E. ELDER

John E. Elder, 73, of Republic passed away on Monday, Dec. 23, 2024, after a courageous battle with ALS. He was born on April 30, 1951, in St. Louis; the son of Robert and Gladys (Rittmeyer) Elder.
He married Carol Godager on Nov. 2, 1975, and they adopted a daughter, Heather in 1992. He worked as a shipping supervisor for AP Green Brick Refractory until his retirement and they were members of First Christian Church in Mexico. In 2019, they relocated to Republic and became members of Westside Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Carol; daughter, Heather (Kevin) Haun;  three grandchildren; his four-legged best friend, Macy; two very special cousins, Susie Cunningham and Carol Griffith; his sister-in-law, Marilyn Ostendorf; as well as other extended family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Edith Elder; and a half-brother, Bruce Ostendorf.
A celebration of life was held on Tuesday, Dec. 31, at Meadors Funeral Home in Republic with Pastor Bruce Hayes officiating. He will be laid to rest at a later date in Memorial Park in St. Louis.
