John H. Hanafin

John H. Hanafin, of Clever passed away peacefully at his home on Oct. 22, 2025. He was born on Oct. 14, 1946, in Springfield, to Kenneth and Exie (Roy) Hanafin and was one of three children in the home.
He graduated from Clever High School with the class of 1964, and went on to attend the University of Missouri with an educational specialist degree and went on to teach agriculture at both the middle and high school levels in Clever, Hurley and Galena for over 20 years. On Aug. 14, 1971, he married Kim Kemp, and together they shared 52 amazing years before her passing in 2023. He and Kim had three children, Johnna, Sarah and Jason. His love for agriculture carried on to his own farm, which he enjoyed overseeing until the day he passed. He was very active in the Holstein Association and enjoyed going to all the area dairy cattle shows. He was the kind of person who took care of everyone ahead of himself. He was a loving Papa who loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed traveling, having gone to Ireland, yearly family trips to Florida to see the ocean he loved dearly, as well as trips to various locations that his son, who was in the Air Force, was stationed, Washington D.C., Wyoming and Guam just to name a few.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife of 52 years, Kim.
He is survived by his children; Johnna Connors, Sarah (Jason) Justice and Jason (Stacy) Hanafin; nine grandchildren; brother Jim (Donna) Hanafin; sister Judy (Doug) Forgey; a very special cousin, Larry (Jodi) Wright; as well as other extended family and countless friends.
A visitation was for Sunday, Oct. 26, 2025, from 2-4 p.m. at Meadors Funeral Home in Clever. A graveside service was held on Monday, Oct. 27, 2025, at 10 a.m. in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest next to his loving wife, Kim.
