Louis Dean Mauss

Louis Dean Mauss, 89, son of the late Max and Eula (Paxton) Mauss, was born
Sept. 6, 1931 and departed this life Dec. 25, 2020.
Mauss was preceded in passing by his wife, Margaret Mauss; his parents and
his sister Evelyn Stoll. He is survived by his sister Barbara Blehm of Billings,
Mont., two sons, Mark and wife Mary Anne Mauss of Bois D’Arc; and Daniel
and wife Irene Mauss of Climax Springs; four grandchildren, and three great-
grandchildren. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, friends and
other family members who will all truly miss him.
Mauss was born and raised in Camden County on the family farm originally
established, in the late 1800s, by his grandfather Henry D. Mauss.
He graduated from Climax Springs High School in 1949 and married Margaret
Juan Baughman in 1953. He served in the United States Air Force in the early
1950s. Afterwards, the family moved to the Kansas City area and lived there
until 1967, when they moved back to the family farm near Climax Springs.
During the time in Kansas City he worked for Stewart Hall and Wicks Pipe
Organ Company.
While on the farm, he began a commercial Polled Hereford cow/calf
operation, which over time evolved into a Black Angus operation heavily
influenced by the Herefords, which is still in operation today. During his time
on the farm, he served on several local boards including, Soil and Water
Conservation District, Citizen’s Bank of Climax Springs, Climax Springs
School board, and served for 39 years on the board of Southwest Electric
Cooperative. He also served on the Camden County Farm Bureau board as a
member and president for many years and has been associated with Farm
Bureau for over 50 years.
Graveside services were at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 4, 2021 in Grainger
Cemetery, Climax Springs. Arrangements are under the direction of Allee-
Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Camdenton. Memorial donations may be made
to Climax Springs Alumni Association and mailed to Allee-Holman-Howe
Funeral Home, 15 Clint Ave, Camdenton.
