Republic man shoots grandmother during burglary

A Republic man has been charged with multiple felonies following a burglary turned shooting.
According to the probable cause statement, Timothy Kirby, 18, was apprehended when Battlefield police officers were dispatched to a home in the 3900 block of W. Gardenia Dr. at about 3:50 p.m.
Per the statement, the alleged perpetrator and one other individual, both wearing masks, entered the home of a juvenile victim and his grandmother through the garage before making their way to the living room, where the victims were.
Kirby and the other perp were allegedly in search of a recently collected inheritance comprised of both money and jewelry. The juvenile victim claimed that Kirby was carrying an AK-47-style weapon, which was later confirmed by officers.
Once Kirby and the other man entered the home, they asked where the money was before striking the juvenile with the butt of the rifle and firing a round at the grandmother, which would strike her person, causing serious injury.
Following the gunshot, Kirby fled the scene and discarded the weapon at a separate residence in Battlefield. He was apprehended just two blocks away from the scene of the crime.

Quick arrest
At the time of his arrest, Kirby was found with two ski masks in his pockets. A shell casing was also found at the scene, matching the powerful 7.62 round fired by his rifle.
Kirby faces two charges of assault, three charges of armed criminal action and a count of burglary in the first degree. He is currently being held in the Greene County Jail. A second suspect is in custody as well.
