Republic School district fills two administrative roles

Stephens

Thompson
John Thompson will step into the role of Assistant Superintendent of Academic Services for Republic Schools following the promotion of the previous holder of the position, Tyler Overstreet.
Overstreet was tapped to take up the mantle of superintendent of schools following the announcement of Matt Pearce’s retirement. This left a vacancy in his previous role for the upcoming school year, one the district filled by calling upon Thompson.
Thompson currently serves as the principal of Republic High School, a position he has held since 2020, according to a release issued by the district. In his newfound role, Thompson will “oversee human resources and academic services, including curriculum, instruction, assessment and continuous improvement efforts aligned with the district’s mission.”
“Dr. Thompson leads with relationships at the center of his work and is deeply committed to building a culture that supports strong teaching and learning,” said Overstreet. “He is a reflective, intentional and visionary leader who brings a strategic mindset to aligning people, systems and purpose. I am confident his leadership will strengthen our academic work as we build on the strong foundation already in place across our district.”
Thompson boasts a doctorate in educational administration from Lindenwood University and has held the positions of assistant principal, department head and teacher in the past.
“It is an honor and a blessing to serve our students, staff and the RepMO community,” Thompson said. “In this new role, I look forward to strengthening relationships and leading through service as we continue working together in support of student learning. We truly have the best students, families and employees working together to fulfill our mission of preparing each student for future excellence through a safe educational environment.”
Receiving a promotion, the district had to find someone to fill Thompson’s previous role as Republic High School Principal, eventually deciding on the current Assistant Principal at that same school, Eric Stephens. Stephens has been with the district since 2008, teaching math, coaching volleyball, and serving on numerous district committees.
Both Thompson and Stephens will take on their new positions at the beginning of the 2026-2027 school year.
