ROY “GENE” MCCRACKEN

Roy “Gene” McCracken, 79, of Springfield passed away Monday, Oct. 7, 2024, in his home in Springfield; under the care of Cox Springfield Health Hospice Unit. He was born Aug. 9, 1945, in Wheaton; the son of Lee Roy and Estoline Louise (Harader) McCracken.
He graduated from Wheaton High School in 1963. After graduating, he was employed by Kraft Foods Inc. in Wheaton and he hauled both canned and bulk milk for several years. Later, he owned and operated Save-A-Lot Store in Monett then moved to Springfield which he called home and where he was self-employed for the last several years.
He is survived by his daughter, Tammy (James) Landoll of Pierce City and son, Tim (Heidi) McCracken of Rocky Comfort; two brothers, Joe (Eva) McCracken of Coos Bay, Ore. and Jack (Carissa) McCracken of Shell Knob; four sisters: Sue Wilkens of Wheaton, Judy (Tom) Osborne of Lee’s Summit, Ginger (Randy) Poe of Rocky Comfort and Jackie (Jack) Carpenter of Washburn; five grandchildren: TJ McCracken, Tiffany Mercer, Kevin McCracken, Kelli Roberts, and Kayla Wright; and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Richard; and two sisters, Mary and Tresa.
Graveside services were held on Monday, Oct. 14, at Muncie Chapel Cemetery in Wheaton, under direction of McQueen Funeral Home in Wheaton. Pastor Paul Wahlert conducted the services.
