Shawn Douglas Westfall, Sr.

Shawn Douglas Westfall, Sr., 65, of Mt. Vernon passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. He passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by the love and comfort of his family.

Westfall was born in Osceola, lowa on Feb. 24, 1961 to Robert and Mildred Westfall. He moved to Mt. Vernon in 1986. On Oct. 7, 1989, he married the love of his life, Leslie Smith. They spent a beautiful 37 years or marriage together building a lifetime of cherished moments. He leaves behind his beloved children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Westfall spent most of his life working as a culinary professional and took great pride in caring for those he served. He loved anything to do with cars, especially tinkering with and fixing them. Many of his younger days were spent going to a drag racing track. He enjoyed going camping and being out on the lake with family. 

Westfall is survived by his wife of 37 years; Leslie Westfall, their six children; Kelli (Aaron) Bray of Mt. Vernon, Erica Chafin of Mt. Vernon, Shelli (Jarod) Fehring of Aurora, Shawn "Douglas" Westfall, Jr. of Mt. Vernon, Stephanie (Jeremy) Reynolds of Stotts City, and Dylan (Lynnsey) Westfall of Verona.

He is survived by his two brothers; David (Vicki) Westfall of Republic, Steve (Kristi) Westfall of Winfield, Kan., and one sister Michelle (Jim) Jones of Mt. Vernon. He is also survived by his 13 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mildred Westfall; mother-in-law Mary Smith; brothers Ronald Westfall and Michael Westfall; sister Sharon Veach; and niece Brenda Harrall.

His final resting place will be at IOOF Cemetery in Mt. Vernon.
