SONNY LEE STRINGER

Sonny Lee Stringer, 88, of Republic passed away Feb. 18, 2024, at Sonshine Manor in Republic. He was born Feb. 28, 1935, in Williford, Ark. to Sonny Lloyd and Josephine Aaron (Hurst) Stringer.
He graduated from Willow Springs High School in 1953 and married his high school sweetheart, Mary Barnes, on May 22, 1953. He had an illustrious high school football career in Willow Springs as well as being a basketball and track standout. He received a football scholarship to the University of Missouri in Columbia where he played for four years under Coach Don Faurott. After graduation, he went on to coach football in Hannibal and Fredricktown. He then moved to Springfield and was an assistant coach for five years at Glendale High School before becoming head coach at Parkview High School for six more years. He was an avid Missouri Tiger and MSU Bear fan.
He is survived by sons, Kent (Suzanne) Stringer, Kirk Stringer and fiancée Alicia Dinges and Preston (Angi) Stringer; sister, Martha Eddlemon; brother, Bill (Karen) Stringer; eight grandchildren and multiple great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Earnestine (Barnes) Stringer; parents; and grandson, Luke Stringer.
Services were held on Thursday, Feb. 22, at Meador’s Funeral Home in Republic.
