Steven “Andy” Hammer

Officer Steven “Andy” Hammer passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at the age of 43 in Republic. He was born on March 15, 1978 in Pittsburg, Kan. to Becky Meyerpeter and Steven Hammer. He spent most of his childhood in Virginia Beach, Va. and Springfield. He joined the Army in 1999 and was stationed in Germany where he met the love of his life, Linda. They were married on Aug. 17, 2002 and went on to have two children. He had a long career in law enforcement serving five years as a military police officer in the United States Army, nearly 10 years as a corrections officer in the Greene County Jail, and was currently a corrections officer for the United States Medical Center for Federal Prisoners in Springfield.
Hammer is survived by his wife Linda Hammer and his two children Ashlyn and Aerik of Republic; his mother Becky Meyerpeter and husband David Meyerpeter of Republic; his dad Mark Allison of Humansville; his father- and mother-in-law Manfred and Doris Heinke of Giessen, Germany; sister Meredith Allison, nephew Gage Godfrey and nieces Morgan and Sydney Godfrey of Willard; his sister-in-law and her husband Verena and Jo Pudelko of Frankfurt, Germany; his father Steve Hammer and paternal grandmother Arlene Hammer of Minnesota, and many other family members and friends.
There was a visitation from 10-12 on Thursday, April 15, 2021 with a service following at noon at Greenlawn Funeral Home East.
