Storms charged with domestic assault, armed criminal action
Deaf mute allegedly stabs man in neck with screwdriver at residence near Bois D’Arc
An Independence, Mo. man is making his new home, at least temporarily, in the Greene County Jail after he allegedly stabbed a Bois D’Arc resident in the neck on Wednesday, Sept. 18. Edward Craig Storms, 55, was booked into the jail on Thursday, Sept. 19.
According to the probable cause statement in the case, Storms and the victim were working on a truck at a Bois D’Arc residence, 11000 Farm Road 128, one half mile east of Prospect Cemetery, when Storms walked around the truck and stabbed the victim in the neck with a screwdriver, said a woman who witnessed the altercation. The woman also said that she didn’t witness “any argument or disagreement between … Storms and the victim prior to the assault.” Storms, the woman said, left the residence in a brown Ford F-150 prior to the arrival of police and took the screwdriver with him. She also said that Storms, whom she stated is both deaf and mute, conveyed to her that he was going to his wife’s house in Kansas City, Mo. Medical personnel arrived on the scene afterwards, and the victim was transported with life threatening injuries to Cox South Hospital by helicopter.
The next day, deputy sheriffs in Callaway County located and detained Storms; he was taken into custody, and his truck was towed for evidentiary purposes. He remained in custody in the Greene County Jail as of press time and will appear in court for a criminal setting hearing on Wednesday, Sept. 25.
Storms is a convicted, non-compliant sex offender, according to information provided by the Missouri State Highway Patrol. On Jan. 21, 2005, he was convicted of the crime of “aggravated indecent liberties” against a 13-year-old girl.
