VIOLET JEAN MCELHANY

Violet Jean McElhany, 77, of Clever passed away on Friday, Sept. 6, 2024. She was born Jan. 5, 1947, in Springfield; the daughter of Cleo Bud and Rosa Lee (Stevens) DeMaranville.
She married Larry David McElhany and together they spent their lives working their dairy farm and raising their six children.
After the tragic loss of her daughter, Kristie Rattles in October 2003, she returned to school, earned her nursing certification, and became a home health specialist. Her dedication and commitment to her patients at Cox Monett Hospital were recognized when she was named employee of the year. Even after retiring, she continued to care for several patients until she became disabled in August 2017.
She is survived by her children: William Baker, Anita (Dennis) Lowther, Wendy Bali, Kerry Pope (Rob Miller), and David (Rose) McElhany; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and another on the way; and numerous extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry; a daughter, Kristie Ann Rattles; a grandson, Jonathon Pope; a great-granddaughter, Chloe Baker; her parents; her sisters, Donna Friend and Delilah Alberta; and her brothers, Buddy DeMaranville and Steven DeMaranville.
Services were held on Saturday, Sept. 14, at Meadors Funeral Home Chapel in Clever. A private burial was held following the funeral services.
