Walter Richard “Dick” Wilcox

Walter Richard “Dick” Wilcox, 83, of Republic, passed away in his home on Thursday, Feb. 18, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. He was born Wednesday, Feb. 16, 1938 to Harry and Maxine (Gholson) Wilcox in St. Joseph. He was the youngest of two sons in the home.
Wilcox graduated from Dexter High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1957 and served honorably until his discharge in 1961. After his service he attended the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg. Upon completion, he became a trooper with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, serving primarily in the southeast part of the State.
Wilcox married Patsy Leirer on May 4, 1963, and this union was blessed with two sons, Michael and Mark. He was a member of Republic Church of Christ for many years. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren and his four-legged family members, as well.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Harry Wilcox, Jr.
Wilcox is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Patsy, sons; Mike Wilcox and wife Ginny and Mark Wilcox and wife Melissa, five grandchildren; two nieces; as well as other extended family and countless friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be made in Wilcox’s honor to The Missouri State Highway Patrol Masters organization (780 Country Road 383, Whitewater, MO 63785).
Visitation is scheduled for 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2021 at Meadors Funeral Home, Republic. Funeral services will follow at 6 p.m. Burial will take place privately at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield.
