Word up! Republic library on track for January 2026 opening

Construction proceeds on the new Republic branch of the Springfield-Greene County Library. The new library building is about 40 percent complete and is scheduled to be finished by December. After library materials are moved from the old building, the new building will have a soft opening in January 2026.
Following the opening of the new facility, the old one will be deconstructed to make room for a new parking lot, which will be finished in April 2026. The newly minted reading hub will be celebrated later at the kickoff of the 2026 Summer Reading Program. Vickie Hicks, community relations director for the Springfield-Greene County Library District, said there are opportunities available for those who would like to support the new building.
"We are looking for businesses, organizations and individuals that might be interested in investing in the new library," she said. "They can reach out to Branch Manager Tysha Shay to discuss opportunities."
To contact Shay, call 417-732-7284 or send an email to tyshas@thelibrary.org.
