54 new citizens naturalized at Wilson’s Creek Battlefield

Fifty-four individuals were welcomed and officially instated as American citizens during an outdoor naturalization ceremony the morning of Thursday, April 18, at Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield. Several dignitaries were on hand for the affair including U.S. District Court Judge Douglas Harpool, who presided over the official court proceeding, and Congressman Billy Long.
The 54 newly announced Americans were from 24 foreign countries, many of whom brought their families and friends for the joyous occasion.
The Republic High School concert chorale was also on hand and performed multiple pieces during the event. Also in attendance were Civil War reenactors—who fired a cannon upon adjournment of the ceremony.
