6th Annual ROAR Run takes place Saturday

The Republic R-3 School District’s ROAR Run 2019 will be held at the Republic Middle School football field on Saturday, May 4. This will be the sixth year the district has hosted the event.
The ROAR Run will feature a one-mile fun run and a 5K, with the one-mile run starting at 8 a.m. and the 5K beginning at 8:30. The races will be held, rain or shine.
According to an information page about the event found on the district website, the ROAR Run promotes health, helps building clubs achieve goals, and raises funds for the schools.
“The ROAR Run is an effort to provide our building running clubs an opportunity to reach their goal of completing an official race, raise funds for each of our school buildings, and take action in making Republic the healthiest community it can be,” a statement on the page read.
Those who would like to take part in the race but have not yet registered may do so during the packet pickup at the RMS lobby on Friday, May 3, from 2 until 6 p.m., or on the day of the race, beginning at 7 a.m. Registration for the fun run ends at 7:45 a.m. on race day and at 8 a.m. for the 5K.
The cost to register for the 5K is $10 for Republic students and those 17 and under, $20 for district employees and $25 for all others. T-shirts will be available for $5 while supplies last. There is no cost to participate in the fun run.
Josey McPhail, the district’s director of communications, said the ROAR Run is something not to be missed.
“The ROAR Run is one of our favorite events of the year,” she said. “It provides our students with an opportunity to meet their goals, and their smiles of victory at the finish line are priceless! This event is for the whole family. It really is a tremendous sight to see nearly 1,000 students, families and employees all come together for a school event on a Saturday morning in May. Republic is truly an amazing community.”
