AG Aldermen donate $1,000 to AG Community Foundation

The Ash Grove Board of Aldermen voted unanimously to show its support for the Ash Grove Area Community Foundation with its checkbook, to the tune of $1,000.
The aldermen were given a presentation at the Sept. 3 board meeting by foundation president Tyler Gunlock, who not only outlined the purpose of the non-profit organization, but also solicited a donation from the city.
The board was quickly receptive to the idea, and first considered a $500 donation. But with encouragement and suggestion from Mayor Les Gardner, the board upped the amount to $1,000.
The board voted to make the generous donation pending approval by city attorney Mel Gilbert, who eventually confirmed its legality.
In an effort to reach its goal of $30,000, the foundation is working to generate community support. Thus far, and with the city’s donation, the group will have raised approximately $19,000.
In other business during the meeting, the board approved the appointment of former mayoral candidate Justin Janes to the Planning and Zoning Board.
The board also voted to pass an ordinance to amend the city budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2019. The 9-page budget was distributed at the meeting as part of public documents.
