The Ash Grove Historic Town Committee (HTC) held an informational meeting at Ash Grove’s City Hall on Monday, Jan. 14. About 25 people attended.
Stuart Coutchie, president of the HTC, said the purpose of the meeting was to help determine what events the group will sponsor in 2019.
“It was to try to build support,” Coutchie said. “We were wanting to get an idea of what events we want to plan for 2019.”
Additionally, Coutchie said, the group wanted to encourage members of the community to participate in the events.
“We were going to see if anybody wanted to help out,” he said. “We actually (saw) who wanted to join our group as well. (We also wanted to) get the word out about what it takes … to get all those events to actually work.”
Coutchie said the meeting produced “a lot of good feedback” for the HTC, which helped shape some of the group’s plans for events later this year.
“We were considering combining the summer and fall event,” he said. “I think we’re now back on the fence about if we want to do that or have two events.”
Additionally, Coutchie said several people demonstrated interest in participating in the events. He said the HTC was also able to help people understand the importance of having several community members help out with the events.
“What basically we had told everyone was … it wears everybody out if we only have a small group of people putting on events,” he said.
The next HTC meeting will take place at Ash Grove City Hall on Thursday, Feb. 7, at 6:30 p.m. All members of the community are welcome. For more information, call Stuart Coutchie at (417) 751-2034.
