Alcohol suspected in crash on 266

Two area men were sent airborne when their 2000 Mazda Protege quickly swerved off Highway 266 and hit a ditch, seven miles west of Springfield, Wednesday, March 11. The vehicle, driven by Tommy Crossland, 54, of Walnut Grove was headed eastbound, just east of Farm Road 65, when it took a corner too fast, and veered into the ditch before reaching oncoming traffic. Both Crossland and his passenger Robert Boice, 49, of Bois D’Arc were ejected before the mangled mess came to rest. Crossland, found in the ditch, was dazed following the calamity. Boice was located in a field, partially under the Protege which was beginning to burn. EMT’s on scene treated Boise for a possible broken shoulder, as he was sent off in an ambulance. Neither occupants were wearing a seatbelt. Alcohol is suspected to have played a part in the crash.
