ANNE ELIZABETH (LAND) JOHNSON

Anne Elizabeth (Land) Johnson was born Oct. 23, 1937 to J, Wilfred and Grace B (Ottendorf) Land in Republic, Missouri. She passed away Aug. 3, 2025.
She attended 12 years of school at Republic schools and one year at what is now MSU. While in Republic High School, she was an outstanding music student, in fact became a member of the high school band when she was in the late elementary years. She played the piccolo and the flute, and upon graduation had the distinct honor of never receiving less than the top rating of 1 at state music contests all four of her high school years.
Her freshman year of high school she was honored by being chosen to represent Republic Band as a piccolo player when the United States Navy Band came through Springfield on tour. She stood in front of the band and played Stars and Stripes Forever marching along with the Navy band members. She attended Missouri State Band Clinic at MU her sophomore and junior summers. She was also chosen as a visiting guest with the Springfield Symphony as a flute player her senior year of high school. She guest starred at many area high schools Spring Band concerts by playing the Stars and Stripes Forever with their local high school band.
In 1956, she married and moved to the Bois D’Arc area to raise her children, Kathryn, Mark and Gregg. The family was very active in 4-H work and was awarded Farm Family of the Year by the Extension Council of Missouri. Anne served 17 years as Bois D’Arc Braves 4-H Club community leader and food projects leader. She was president several times of the Greene County 4-H Leaders Council and served on the Greene County Extension Board.
In 1987, she moved back to Republic following her divorce to be closer to her aging parents.
She has been a member of the United Methodist faith since her childhood. She was a Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, youth leader, member of the United Methodist Women and junior choir director. She more recently attended Wesley United Methodist where her love for music continued as a member of the alto section of the Chancel Choir.
Anne loved to travel and took several trips with her friends from her church. She was also an avid country music fan and loved to sing along with the radio. She was a “people person” and seldom met a stranger, or at least they weren’t for long. She was blessed with lots of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her children Kathryn Lynn (Joe) Iman; Mark David (Margot) of Ash Grove, and Gregg Stephen of Springfield; her grandson Tyler Iman and a host of friends and other relatives.
Visitation will be held at Meadors Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Springfield. In lieu of floral arrangements, donations are suggested to the Republic Historical Society, 146 N. Main Street, Republic.
