April 6 Election Candidate Profiles

Kevin Haun

Brandon Self

Jim Deichman

Clint Gerleck

Next week’s election includes many city and school races. The following is the race for Republic City Council Ward 1 and Ward 4:
Republic City Council Ward 1
Name: Kevin Haun
Education: Bachelors in Recreation, Sports, and Parks Administration - Missouri State University
Occupation: Residential Appraiser
Family: Married to my wife Heather Haun for four years. We have three children, Oakley, 4, Oliver, 3, and Magnolia, 1.
Why should someone vote for you? The answer to our issues cannot always be a tax initiative. My goal is to see Republic pay off all debt, and not go backwards. If we clear up debt then we can fix issues such as police and fire staffing. We also must preserve the small town feel of Republic while also managing the reality of growth.

Name: Brandon Self
Education: Bachelors of Science in Insurance and Risk Management from Missouri State University
Occupation: Insurance Agent
Family: Wally and Ruth Anne Self of Tipton, Mo. and a brother Devon Self of Imperial, Mo., his wife Melisa and their daughter Adelyn.
Why should someone vote for you? I feel that I bring an understanding of how public processes work with my time on council. I also bring a business acumen to council with my education and background. I am so very thankful for my upbringing in small town Missouri. Those values I carry with me in my business and council seat. The excitement around Republic is what I have always wanted since becoming a resident in 2006. I want to keep the momentum and help continue the positive movement for our great city!
Republic City Council Ward 4

Name: Jim Deichman
Education: High school grad
Occupation: Retired
Family: Single
Why should someone vote for you? I am the incumbent running for re-election in Ward 4, a position I’ve held since April 2017. 1. Cast supporting votes for the development agreements to Garton Business Park where the new Amazon Fulfillment Center is being constructed.
2. Supported development agreements that assisted with Andy’s and Convoy of Hope.
3. Served on the committee responsible for the city’s new operating software.
4. Debt reduction - during my terms as council we erased a number of old debts that were limiting the city. We watched our debt drop from $18M down to $8M.
5. Assisted in the City Charter changes that were successfully approved by the voters in 2019.
6. Supported every initiative that provided additional funding and support for our public safety staff.
7. Supported the development and construction of the city’s new Animal Shelter.
8. Cast supporting votes to change the development processes for the developers making it easier to do business in our community.

Name: Clint Gerlek
Education: Evangel University
Occupation: Vice President, iHeartRadio Springfield
Family: Wife Stephanie, daughter, 4, son, 2.
Why should someone vote for you? I believe in putting the residents of Republic first. As we face a new and exciting time of growth for the city, we need address each new issue with current residents as the priority. This means making our woefully understaffed emergency services a priority. This means making sure amenities like senior centers and parks don’t get left behind. I have no political agenda or allegiance. My priority is people.
