Ash Grove City Park to soon get new, large jungle gym

The Ash Grove Board of Aldermen, at its Dec. 7 meeting, agreed to allow voters to weigh in April 6, 2021 on whether city elections should be held for non-contested elections. Meaning, if voters say yes at the April election, elections thereafter won’t be held if the same number of candidates run for the same number of positions. The ballot issue will last for six years, if passed by the electorate.
Also during the April election, voters will be asked to fill two aldermen seats; one in the First Ward, currently held by Jerry Kane; and the other in the Second Ward, held by Pat Hurley. The term of each position is two years. Candidate filing for the seats end at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2021.
City attorney
The board also agreed, 3-0, in the absence of member Pat Hurley, to again hire city attorney Mel Gilbert for the 2021 calendar year. For Gilbert’s services, the city will pay a monthly retainer of $495, and will include up to four hours of work.
Any hours thereafter will be charged to the city at $125 per hour.
Gilbert will also be reimbursed for copies, mileage and other expenses incurred while representing the city of Ash Grove.
Cintas agreement
The board also voted 3-0 in favor of renewing the contract with Cintas, at a rate that is not to exceed a 10 percent increase over last year’s.
Park announcement
In the final moments, Mayor Les Gardner announced that at the prior meeting, the purchase of a large jungle gym had been OK’d by the board for the city park. Although no definite timetable was given, the gym was said to be going in soon.
