With the assistance of an artist’s rendering, Ash Grove local Stephanie Dean presents her ideas to the Ash Grove Board of Aldermen for what could eventually be a walking trail through town Aug. 19. Dean said that in the future the trail could even extend further to the nursing home and even north to the Nathan and Olive Boone Homestead State Historic Site. (Photo by Ryan Squibb)

Potential route would span city, connect Cubs Park, Dollar General area

The Ash Grove Board of Aldermen is currently considering their next step after hearing a presentation from local designer Stephanie Dean, of SL Designs, who was commissioned by the board to develop a plan of what could be a walking trail through Ash Grove.
Mostly following along the drainage washway that runs east to west through town, the trail as presented, would start around Dollar General on Ash Grove’s east side, and then run a circuitous route, eventually crossing Highway 160 and ending at Cubs Lake on the westernmost edge of town. The plan also accounted for the incoming subdivision on the west side.
During her Aug. 19 presentation Dean conveyed that this was an early rendering— called Concept A—and possibly one of multiple options the board could consider.
The board took no action on the matter and will deliberate further once more information is known. There has publicly been no dollar amount put on the potential project, nor timeline.
School zones now have longer day at 20
Also during the meeting, the board voted to update times for when lower 20 mph. limits in school zones are active. Since the district has moved to a four-day schedule, the days start earlier and end later. The board voted unanimously to start the lower limits at 7 a.m. and end at 4 p.m. when school is in session.
City cruiser avoids crusher, for now
The 2012 Dodge Charger that was decommissioned by the Ash Grove Police Department after its engine blew, will be given one last chance at glory as it has been donated to the Ash Grove Fire Department. The firefighters will use the donor vehicle to practice extrications. Once the Charger has fulfilled its last leg of public service it will be taken to the scrap yard and destroyed, for good. The board voted 4-0 to make it so.
