Ash Grove fire chief, asst. chief announce resignation on Facebook

Kimberly Hayes Grant, fire chief of the Ash Grove Fire Protection District (AGFPD) announced via a post on her Facebook page that she and the assistant chief, Jared Jones were resigning from the AGFPD on Wednesday, Dec. 26. She cited what she described as a lack of willingness by the AGFPD’s Board of Directors as the cause for the resignations.
“I have put forth so much effort to work with our board but felt like they were no longer willing to work with Jared and me,” Grant wrote in her post. “I am beyond heartsick about my decision but felt completely devalued by the board of directors.”
In her post, Grant stated that she had “not cried this many tears” since her mother’s death. She also expressed concern that her and Jones’s decision to resign from the AGFPD “may cost someone their life” because the district will have to rely heavily on mutual aid.
Grant ended her post by stating, “I feel like God has given me the desire, the responsibility and the opportunity to serve my community for 28 years and I am crushed to end this way.”
Grant followed up her post with another the next day, stating that she wanted to clarify that she didn’t feel that the board had “done anything legally wrong.”
“Quite the opposite; they do everything with the community’s best interest in mind,” she wrote. “My difficulty is in how they communicate and (don’t) communicate with me.”
She also stated that the reason for her original post was “not to call out the board” but to simply let people know why she’d resigned.
Attempts to reach Grant and Jones for comment were unsuccessful as of press time. The AGFPD also did not respond to a request for comment.
