Ash Grove R-4 keeps same tax levy
District earns SWC All-Sports trophy, Governance Award
For the third year in a row, the Ash Grove Board of Education voted unanimously to maintain the same tax levy rate of $3.6326. The board voted on the matter during its Aug. 23 meeting held at Bois D’Arc Elementary School.
The meeting was preceded by a public hearing where Dr. Aaron Gerla, district superintendent, made the proposal, through a slide show presentation, to stay the course.
The number is derived from the operating rate of $2.9399 and the debt service of $.6927.
The levy is much lower than several neighboring districts, including Republic’s $4.1546 and Willard’s $4.1284.
In order to maintain the rate, the district did, however, need to pay off $60,000 in advanced debt, which the board agreed to. In the end, the payment translates to a $24,000 savings for the district.
All Sports Trophy
Also during the meeting, district Athletic Director Brian Bagley displayed the Southwest Conference All Sports Trophy, which Ash Grove earned after accumulating the most points in the conference throughout all sports. Ironically, Ash Grove didn’t win any individual sport outright, but was good enough all around to amass enough success to claim the trophy for the year.
Ash Grove Board of Education presented Governance Team Award
The Ash Grove Board of Education was formally recognized at the meeting as one of only 14 school boards in Missouri to earn the Governance Team Award given by the Missouri School Boards’ Association. Jerry Lee, Associate Executive Director with the MSBA, presented the award plaque to the board at the meeting. Lee was impressed with the board’s dedication as this was its fifth year in a row to claim the
honor.
