This week, Ash Grove High School celebrates homecoming, and students will have a lot of opportunities to get involved.
Spirit Week
Students have a chance to show their school spirit by taking part in Spirit Week, where they are challenged to dress each day according to a certain theme. Tuesday was Twin Day, where the students were each encouraged to team up with another student and dress alike. Wednesday was Farmer Flannel; students got to wear their country clothing.
Thursday was Throwback Thursday, and students were encouraged to dress in clothing from a past decade. Finally, Friday is Pirate Pride Day, and students are encouraged to wear their school colors.
There are daily giveaways for students who take part in Spirit Week; they also add points to the school’s Color Chain Competition, and their names will go into a drawing for a gift card.
Homecoming Bonfire
The homecoming bonfire will be held in front of the bus barn at 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23.
There will be an old car there which students can spray paint and “beat the heck out of” for $1, as a way to take their rage out on the other team for Friday night’s game. There will also be soda and $3 funnel cakes for sale.
Senior Sunrise Event
Ash Grove High School seniors are encouraged to take part in the Senior Sunrise on Friday, Sept. 24, from 6:45 a.m. to 7:45 a.m., behind the Art Building. There will be yard games and photo opportunities, and breakfast will also be served. Seniors are encouraged to wear their red and black to this event.
Homecoming game and dance, Friday
Homecoming Friday, Sept. 24, will be a special night.Vintage cars will be on display as students and other spectators enter the football stadium, in keeping with homecoming’s throwback theme, “Under the Friday Night Lights.” At around 6:25 p.m., the Ash Grove homecoming queen candidates, Julianna Torbett, Khloe Moad and Emma Dotson will be presented, as will be junior princess Savanna Pratt, sophomore princess Regan Delk and freshman princess Kelsey Morris. The homecoming queen will be crowned at 6:30 p.m.
At 7 p.m., the Pirates will play the Miller Cardinals, and after the game, the homecoming dance will be held in the bus barn.
The dance is open to all students in grades 7-12; tickets can be bought in advance for $5 from Jessica Langley or Gabe Whitehead. Tickets will also be available at the door for $7.
