Sentencing still awaits former Republic businessman who used own son’s identity for crime

The former owner of Beefcakes in Republic has pleaded guilty to a charge of mail fraud in the Federal Courthouse in Springfield. George Myers entered the plea on Aug. 13; the plea was accepted on Aug. 28. At this time, Myers is still awaiting sentencing.
According to federal court documents, Myers ran a scheme between the months of March and July, 2015 in which he wrongly obtained money and property from Invacare Corporation and Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare.
Myers created Myers Companies, LLC, and listed his son as the company’s registered agent. Using his son’s identity, including forging his son’s signature, Myers submitted a customer credit application to Invacare Corporation to gain medical equipment and supplies. He also falsely told Invacare that Myers Companies had received a substantial contract, and that if the orders he’d placed with Invacare were not fulfilled, Myers Companies would lose the contract.
Later, in May of 2015, Myers told Invacare that Myers Companies had sent Invacare a check for $75,000. The following month, he told them that Myers Companies had sent Invacare a check for $125,000. Invacare never received either check.
Myers also defrauded Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare by submitting an account application under his son’s name and receiving medical equipment and supplies from them between April and May of 2015. At the time, Myers received the equipment in Ozark, Missouri and Pittsburg, Kan.
When Myers is sentenced, he faces penalties ranging from probation to 20 years of imprisonment. He could also be fined up to $250,000, receive three years of supervised release, a $100 mandatory special assessment to be paid at sentencing, and an order of restitution.
At this time, there is no set time for Myers to be sentenced. It has been reported that the U.S. Attorneys Office stated that there was no set time frame for Myers to be sentenced.
