A Bois D’Arc woman is being held in the Greene County jail on a variety of charges. Crystal Wingard, a.k.a. Crystal Chalk, 39, was booked into the jail on Thursday, Jan. 7. She faces charges of identity theft, forgery, resisting arrest and possession of a controlled substance.
Possession charge
Wingard was charged with possession of a controlled substance after she was allegedly found to be in possession of methamphetamines and synthetic cannabinoids during a traffic stop on Feb. 22, 2017. She refused to answer a police officer’s questions and was arrested and transported to the Greene County Jail.
Forgery/arrest charges
Wingard was charged with identity theft and resisting arrest following an incident that took place about 10 months later. According to the probable cause statement in the case, an employee from a Springfield restaurant reported on Dec. 29, 2017 that her purse, containing her credit cards and identification, was stolen from her workplace.
On Jan. 11, 2018, the manager of an AT & T store in Springfield reported that Wingard and a man who was with her were in the store and attempting to open a phone account; Wingard allegedly also attempted to purchase two iPhone 10s, each valued at $999, using the stolen identification.
A uniformed Springfield police officer arrived and, after speaking with the store
manager, obtained the identification that Wingard was allegedly attempting to use. The officer looked at the identification and then told Wingard that she knew the ID wasn’t Wingard’s.
Wingard allegedly attempted to run from the officer, but the officer grabbed Wingard by her jacket and told her to stop and place her hands behind her back. Wingard allegedly shouted “Let go! Just let me go!” at the officer.
The officer attempted to take Wingard to the ground, but Wingard reportedly shrugged out of her jacket and shirt and ran out the front door. The officer pursued her and ordered her to stop, and when Wingard failed to comply, used a taser. Wingard fell to the ground, and the officer took her into custody. She later refused to speak with the investigating officer or make a statement.
Another officer spoke with Wingard’s male acquaintance, who said he knew Wingard by the name listed on the stolen ID. According to the probable cause statement, he told the officer that Wingard told him she was going to open a phone account, and he could use one of the two phones she was purchasing if he would take care of the monthly bill.
The victim later reported that there were five attempts to order credit cards in her name, as well as several fraudulent charges on her stolen credit card.
Forgery charge
Springfield police were contacted by a check-cashing business about a “forgery in process” on Oct. 3, 2019. A police officer arrived and detained Wingard, who allegedly was attempting to cash a check made out to “Crystal Chalk” for $180. She later claimed in a post-Miranda interview that she sold a man a pit-bull for $180, and he paid her with the check. The owner of the account the check was written on was contacted. He said he did not know Wingard or authorize her to write a check on the account.
According to online records, an arrest warrant was issued for Wingard after she failed to appear for a hearing regarding the charges on Sept. 18, 2020.
