Brendon Cox remains in jail after being identified by multiple victims

A Bois D’Arc man is one of two people charged with robbing two people at gunpoint and attempting to rob two more in Springfield on the morning of Monday, Sept. 27. Brendon Cox, 19, is charged with two counts of first-degree robbery, one count of first-degree attempted robbery and three counts of armed criminal action. His alleged partner in the robberies, Trae Vineyard, 25, of Springfield, is charged with two counts of first-degree robbery and one count of first-degree attempted robbery.
Alleged attempted robbery at N. Benton
According to the probable cause statement, a man and woman were jogging across the Martin Luther King, Jr. Bridge when they were approached by two men, one of whom pointed a gun at them. The man holding the gun told one of the victims to give him his wallet; the victim said he told him he didn’t have a wallet. The couple then turned and ran. They told the police the man who pointed the gun at them stood at five feet and seven inches with shaggy hair and dark clothing, while the other man was about six feet tall.
Alleged robbery at East Calhoun
The next victim in the case, a student at Drury University, said he was leaving his apartment on East Calhoun in Springfield when he was approached by two men; he said one stood at about five feet, six inches tall with shaggy blonde hair and wearing a blue hoodie, while the other was about six feet tall. The student said he was running late for a class when he heard one of the men say, “Hey, boy!” The smaller man, the student said, pointed a gun at his chest, and the two demanded his valuables. The student told them all he had was his Apple Air pods; he said the smaller man held him a gun point while the taller one went through his backpack. Afterwards, they took the Apple Air pods and left running on foot.
Alleged robbery at North Benton
The final victim in the case told police he was sitting on a bench at Grant Beach Park when two white males approached him. One of them pointed his gun at the victim and demanded his bag, which they took and then began running across the park. Two witnesses saw this and called 911 while following them.
Capture by police
Springfield police officers located Cox and Vineyard in a store on the 1400 block of North Kansas Expressway. Cox, who stands at 5’6”, has blonde shaggy hair and was wearing a blue hoodie, was found to have a Smith and Wesson .380 handgun and a pair of Apple Air Pods. Vineyard, who is 6’, was wearing a gray shirt. The victims from the robberies at N. Grant and E. Calhoun were transported to the scene; both identified Cox and Vineyard as the men who robbed them.
The investigating officer stated that, in a post-Miranda interview, Cox confessed to all three robberies.
Both Cox and Vineyard were booked into the Greene County Jail on Monday, Sept. 27. According to online records, Vineyard posted a $25,000 bond and was released on Wednesday, Sept. 29. As of press time, Cox remained in the Greene County Jail.
