Brookline resident killed; wife injured in car crash east of Bois D’Arc on FR 124

A Brookline man was killed in a two-car collision the evening of Tuesday, Dec. 30; his wife also suffered moderate injuries in the crash.
According to a report filed by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Seth Bateman was driving his 2002 Honda Civic westbound on Farm Road 124 about one-half mile west of Springfield when he passed and cut in front of a 2006 Chevrolet pickup being driven by Jerry Welch, 40, of Republic. The report stated that, after passing Welch, Bateman applied his brakes. Welch’s pickup struck Bateman’s vehicle from behind, causing it to skid off the road and overturn, ejecting both occupants from the vehicle. According to the report, neither Seth nor Taylor Bateman were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash; Welch was. Per Missouri law, Welch was tested for alcohol.
