Steven Edward Burgess, who was hospitalized following an incident which ended with him being shot in the chest, was booked into the Greene County Jail on Thursday, Feb. 25. As of press time, he was being held without bond.
On Thursday, Feb. 18, Burgess allegedly struck an 82-year-old woman, fired a shotgun inside his house, and then pointed a deer rifle at a child in his car. The child’s mother told investigators she shot him with a 9 mm handgun when she saw him starting to aim the rifle at the child.
Burgess was taken to a local hospital, where he was held while receiving medical treatment before being booked into the jail. He is charged with two counts of first-degree domestic assault, one count of armed criminal action and two counts of unlawful use of a weapon.
According to online records, if Burgess is granted bail, he would be required to wear a GPS monitoring device, and would only be allowed to leave to visit with his attorney, go to work, go to medical appointments or go to a grocery store. His travel would have to be pre-approved.
