Changes coming to Ash Grove City Park playground pieces

After decades of use, several pieces of playground equipment at Ash Grove City Park are being retired to the playground in the sky. The old equipment is now deemed unsafe, by today’s standards, and will be replaced with all new pieces. The outgoing equipment includes the slide and the giant metal caterpillar.
The topic was discussed at length at the Feb. 3 Ash Grove Board of Aldermen meeting.
“In today’s society, the equipment is now being classified as dangerous,” Mayor Les Gardner said. He added that the city is looking into adding more modern equipment, and that Alderman Troy Watts would be meeting with representatives from a company that specializes in such matters the following day.
City officials were open to ideas on the direction to take in the matter.
Park picnic tables set on fire…
It was also announced that the park will soon be getting some new picnic tables. The move comes on the heels of vandals setting them afire, thereby leading to replacement with a heavier duty—and less flammable—option.
Trees replaced...
Ash Grove City Park will also receive replacement trees for those killed in recent years. Seven trees have been removed and are set to be replaced. A replant for some of the trees will occur at an Arbor Day ceremony, April 24.
