Donald (Don) L. Groves

Donald (Don) L. Groves passed away on Jan. 26, 2026 in Springfield. He was born on May 8, 1943 in Tuscumbia, to Ruby K. (Klug) and Louis G. Groves.
In his formative years the family moved to Springfield where he attended school at Hickory Hills, then the family relocated to Willard where he enjoyed participating in FFA and raising Herefords and hogs. While in his junior year of high school he met his future wife (Sue Hodge) at a skating rink. Sue was attending a rival high school.
Following his high school graduation, he attended some college classes at MSU before marrying Sue on July 20, 1963 at Hood UMC in Republic. During their early married life together they lived in Springfield. With his enjoyment of FFA programs, he helped youth in 4-H and coached a youth baseball team.
In the 1970s he and Sue moved to the Brookline area on a piece of the Hodge family property where they still reside. During this time he and Sue traveled to several states showing Cocker Spaniels finishing several as champions. He joined the Brookline Fire Department, as a dedicated volunteer, for several years while working at Springday (Dayco) curing serpentine belts, where he was employed for 24 years. He then received training for over the road transportation of goods, which allowed him to also become a bus driver for the Springfield School System, driving to special events up until the age of 81.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sue, as well as other extended family and countless friends. Memorial donations may be made to Hood Methodist Church (139 N Walnut, Republic, MO 65738). Note Groves on the memo line, if issuing a check. Friends and relatives will be received from 10-11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 5, at Hood Methodist Church in Republic. Funeral services will follow with Pastor Richard Fine officiating. He will be laid to rest at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Springfield immediately following the funeral service.
