Two intersections will become one at busy Wal-mart corridor
A Springfield contractor has been chosen to make scheduled improvements to the Highway 60/174 intersection in Republic.
“Journagan Construction of Springfield was awarded the project at the June 3 Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission meeting,” said Angela Eden, senior communications specialist for MoDOT.
According to information on the MoDOT website, construction on the project is supposed to begin in summer of 2020, and run through summer of 2021. At present, Eden said they are awaiting word from Journagan as to when they will begin construction.
“We are awaiting notification from Journagan Construction on their schedule,” she said. “At this point, it is possible work will begin in July, but we are awaiting confirmation from the construction company.”
Eden also said the construction most likely will not impact traffic.
“Most of the work will take place in the median of Route 60 away from traffic,” she said. “If lane closings are needed, they will be done during lower traffic volume times. We do not anticipate the need to close the intersection to do any of the work.”
Motorists can help keep the project on schedule, Eden said, if they practice safe driving.
“We encourage drivers to buckle up and put their phone down in any work zone,” she said.
“Please use caution when the project begins. We will make sure to notify the public when we know have a confirmed date for when construction will begin. We are also working with the city of Republic to help spread the word about the project once a project schedule is known.”
According to the MoDOT website, the project will relocate eastbound lanes closer to westbound lanes in Route 60 median at Route 174, and consolidate two intersections at Route 60/Route 174 into one intersection. New traffic signals will be installed, and new sidewalks will be installed. MoDOT stated that Republic is contributing money for the sidewalks. The project is expected to cost $2 million.
MoDOT has a webpage with information on the project online at www.modot.org/us-60-missouri-route-174-intersection-improvements.
