V highway to get speed limit updates in town
Just over a month had passed since Mama Loca’s proprietor Marc Schwenn essentially called two members of the Ash Grove Board of Aldermen liars, when Schwenn and wife Dolores Coble were back in front of the board—this time asking for a favor.
At the Sept. 8 meeting, Coble—flanked by Schwenn— asked the city to close down a portion of Main Street, from F highway to Tower Street, to accommodate their 10-year anniversary celebration the afternoon of Oct. 18.
Alderman Troy Watts, one of the two who received sharp criticism from Schwenn at the Aug. 3 meeting, was the first to address the request. Watts—a longtime member of the board—in a true display of class, showed more allegiance to his duty than grudges and made a motion to allow the closure.
After some discussion regarding alcohol permits and procedures, the motion passed unanimously.
Also receiving discussion was a proposal to change the speed limits on V highway on the north side of Ash Grove.
The proposal from MoDOT would make the speed limit match on each side of the road, northbound and southbound. The proposal also would remove the 25 mph limit nearing Highway 160; a change that met resistance from the board. A decision was made to discuss the matter further and respond to MoDOT with ideas from the city.
