People Helping People to host annual soup luncheon

The annual People Helping People Benefit Soup Luncheon will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday Nov. 1. This event is held at the Hood United Methodist Church at 139 N. Walnut in Republic. This is a major fund raiser for PHP. Members of the Republic Area Retired School Personnel Association and PHP volunteers will be helping serve.
The cost for a hearty meal of homemade soup, a sandwich, dessert and a drink will be $7 per person. There will be a drawing for several gift baskets. Donations for the drawing are $1 each or six for $5.
The Republic Kiwanis Club will be using the soup luncheon as the setting to distribute monetary donations to various projects in the school and community.
People Helping People is Republic’s local food and clothing bank to help those in need who reside within the Republic School District. The money raised from the soup luncheon will go toward providing Christmas food baskets for about 125 food-insecure families in the Republic School District. In addition to supplies for the holiday meal, PHP tries to provide adequate food for the time the children are on winter break, since most of those receiving assistance rely on the school’s nutritional programs for breakfast and lunch.
