Republic’s Hwy. 174, U.S. 60 interchange opens to new pattern

After months of traffic congestion and construction delays, the newly revamped interchange at Highway 174 and U.S. Highway 60 in Republic opened to traffic Friday, Dec. 15. The changes added multiple turn lanes and will provide more flow for the oft-backed up traffic.
Republic’s Public information Officer Mike Landis reported things have been going very smoothly since the full opening.
“We’ve received a lot of positive feedback from the public. This project was a long time coming, and we can already see the benefits of improved traffic flow and efficiency,” Landis said. “We’re thankful to MoDOT for seeing the project as a priority and responding to our community’s growing transportation needs. This improved intersection will be a great asset as we look toward to the future and prepare for even greater
growth.”
Landis added that while the new traffic pattern is open, work will continue at the site until the spring.
“One of the next phases will include the removal of the original eastbound lanes—now vacated as a result of the traffic shift. Most of the remaining portions of the project will take place away from traffic and disruptions should be
very minimal.”
