Republic’s Sweeny Elementary named ‘Leader in Me Lighthouse School,’ one of 300 nationwide

Republic’s Sweeny Elementary announced the school has been named as a Leader in Me Lighthouse School by Franklin Covey Co.
Sweeny is one of just over 300 schools across the country to obtain this prestigious honor. This recognition comes because the school has achieved outstanding results in school and student outcomes, by implementing The Leader in Me process with fidelity. It is also because of the extraordinary impact the school is having on staff, students, parents, and the greater community. To obtain this status the school must undergo a rigorous audit which includes an onsite visit from Franklin Covey Co personnel.
Sean Covey, president of Franklin Covey Education, said, “We are thrilled to recognize Sweeny Elementary as a Leader in Me Lighthouse School. Schools who achieve the Lighthouse Milestone are great examples of a strong leadership model, process, and of what it means to be a Leader in Me school. This school has experienced transformational results by implementing the principles and practices related to The Leader in Me. We are so pleased to celebrate the success they are experiencing.”
Beth Engelhart, principal of Sweeny Elementary said, “We are honored to become a Leader in Me Lighthouse School. We have seen such amazing results from implementing The Leader in Me process at our school, such as a strong school culture, increases in our math data across all grade levels and a positive increase in staff and student relationships. One example of the impact of our journey is a student who did not speak at school at all. After being at Sweeny Elementary and learning the principles of the habits and discovering her leadership strengths, she got up in front of the entire student body and spoke about the habits and how they impacted her. This journey has not only had a significant impact on this student, but on all students. Leader in Me has allowed our students to find their greatness and shine in ways we never imagined. We are looking forward to seeing the continued success of the Leader in Me at Sweeny. We truly believe the best is yet to come!”
